Improving Our Examination System
The topic of my speech is "Improving Our Examination System". I hope you would like it.
It is well known that the examination system we are using now may be a good way to test your memory, but it can tell you nothing about a student's ability.
Once a child begins school, he enters a world of examinations that will determine1 his future and fate2.
The current3 examination system only encourages4 students to memorize what they are taught in class. It doesn’t enable(使能够) them to gain(获得) practical5 knowledge. The students who have high scores in the examinations are not certainly the best ones in their studying.
Some actions must be taken to change our current examination system. There should be some simpler and more efficient6 ways to test a student's true knowledge and ability, and that is what we should do immediately.
Classifying rubbish , improving environment good morning, respectable judges, teachers. today, standing here makes me feel really honored and e_cited. the title of my speech is classifying rubbish , improving environment.
Personally, rubbish has been a big headache in beijing. as the year __ is coming ,every citizen has realized green beijing and green olympics will bring the far-reaching impact on beijing and even all china . the scense of rubbish nearly everywhere has given all of us a really bad impression, and i'm sure none of us wish to show off the bad side of beijing to athletes and journalists all over the world, for it would blemish the city's and even china's image and leave a bad reputation. so we really have to work hard on green olympics.
Now, we are middle school students. we must improve the sense of protecting the environment and make a contribution to green olympics .
in our life, a lot of rubbish , such as waste paper, plastic bottles ,batteries and so on , is produced every day . after we learnt the passage make our environment more beautiful , we found a lot of rubbish thrown into dustbins could be recycled in fact during our discussion. so we thought it would be better if we could classify rubbish . we told our idea to our teacher and he supported us very much . we became volunteers to classify rubbish . firstly we got three big bo_es and put them in a corner of our classroom . one is for waste paper , one for plastics and coke cans and the other is for batteries . with teacher's help ,soon all the students took part in the activity of classifying rubbish a month , we collected three bo_es of paper , a bo_ of batteries and a bo_ of plastics and coke cans sold them for 28 yuan and bought some young trees with the money . we planted the trees around our school . we were all spoken highly of by our school principals. now we keep on the job and are all proud of improving environment .
The world trusts beijing ing still has a lot to do to reach the level the world e_pects, but we have the confidence to make beijing a green city. great changes are taking place, and not far in the future, beijing will be the focus of all worlds' attention. we'll grasp the opportunity and do our best to make the sky bluer, water greener and air fresher by the year __.
Let's all wish the best for the __ olympics in beijing. thanks for your listening.
i believe in our future
honorable judges, fellow students:
good afternoon!
recently, ther is a heated debate in our society. the college students are the beneficiaries of a rare privilege, who receive exceptional education at
extraordinary places. but will we be able to face the challenge and support ourselves against all odds? will we be able to better the lives of others? will we be able to accept the responsibility of building the future of our country?
the cynics say we care for nothing other than grades; and we neglect the need for character cultivation. but again, the cynics are wrong. we care deeply for each other, we cherish freedom, we treasure justice, and we seek truth. last week, thousands of my fellow students had their blood type tested in order to make a contribution for the children who suffer from blood cancer.
as college students, we are adolescents at the critical turning point in our lives. we all face a fundamental choice: cynicism or faith, each will profoundly impact our future, or even the future of our country. i believe in all my fellow classmates. though we are still inexperienced and even a little bit childish. i believe that we have the courage and faith to meet any challenge and take on our responsibilities. we are preparing to assume new responsibilities and tasks, and to use the education we have received to make our world a better place. i believein our future.
You -- you’re on the cusp of some of the most astonishing breakthroughs in the history of mankind -— scientific, technological, socially —- that’s going to change the way you live and the whole world works. But it will be up to you in this changing world to translate those unprecedented capabilities into a greater measure of happiness and meaning -— not just for yourself, but for the world around you.
And I feel more confident for my children and grandchildren knowing that the men and women who graduate here today, here and across the country, will be in their midst. That’s the honest truth. That's the God’s truth. That's my word as a Biden.
Congratulations, Class of 20xx. And may God bless you and may God protect our troops. Thank you.
A stormy nightin Hong Kong.
A young man who asked his girlfriend out on adate canceled the date and stayed at home because of the bad weather. Meanwhile, in the same apartment building, a pregnant lady who was lying in bed already, suddenly decided to drive out to grab some food. As she was driving back in the heavy rain, the lightning struck her building. And she saw the whole building collapsing in front of her in the storm.
All the residents of that building, including the young man, lost their lives in that accident. Yet the pregnant lady survived.
This is a story of fate by author, Kuang Ni from Hong Kong. Dead oralive, all depended on that one thought. Is this a made-up story, or a true reflection of our lives?
You have probably also experienced how one decision potentially leads to adramatic and different result. So is it accidental, or inevitable? Does destiny exist? If so, how is it formed? Can it be changed? How do we change it?
My dad published a book titled Enlightenment in 20xx. It’s a book about Buddhism and its wisdom that may help you in life. I say “A life-changing book” here because first of all, it is what the Chinese characters on the cover mean; secondly it is my own father’s book and of course I want to sell it; but thirdly, it indeed is “Alife-changing book.”
Ever since he published book, he has wanted me to translate his book when I grow more proficient in English. I doubt that I have the ability to translate his book yet, but I’d like to take this opportunity to share some bits and parts of his insights on Buddhism; especially those on Zen Buddhism that have helped me in my life. This speech will partially be a rough translation of the first chapter of his book, as he wishes, and partially my personal experience with Zen.
Since the day we’re born, we’ve stepped into a huge maze with only one exit. The exit leads to the tranquil middle path that Buddhism is looking for. And only by finding the right road can we exit the maze that is full of suffering. Different thing shappen to different people in our lives, but you should know that every hardship or impasse you face comes from the seeds of your past ignorance and presumptuous acts. There’s nothing we could do with things that already happened, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop searching for the way out. In fact, according to Buddhist teaching, if we wake up from the ignorance, we can definitely leave the maze.
There is a kind of dandelion in Canada that cangrow out of the ground again even if it’s been pulled out by its roots. Some specialists latter found out that this kind of dandelion has roots that are eight meters down into the earth, and at the end of the roots, there’s a seed. Even if the roots are taken out, the dandelion can grow out again because of its seed.
I was born different. But that doesn’t stop me from living my life. And I’m happy。
I love soccer so much and I don’t play as well as others, of course. But you know, in the World Cup, there is so much anticipation and excitement that stirs up in all of us and everybody cheers for this success of their own team. And you know in all games there is losing and winning. People who moan over, you know, their team not winning and then people who get so excited when they win. Everybody loves to win but we shall not linger on the difference between winning and losing. At the World Cup, most of the fans around the world will experience the loss of their team. But is losing failing?
At age 8, I wanted to end my life. I told my mom I wanted to commit suicide. And then, age 10, I actually tried. I felt like I had no hope to live. I felt like I was so different to everybody else, and there was definitely no future or hope for me. If I gave up, thinking that that was the end, I would have missed out on so much more. Life is life. There are lots of successes but also lots of failures and it repeats itself again and again. Should we really despair every time we go through, you know a failure?
You’re saying ‘oh, now I am a failure for the rest of my life.’ You see, the stairs right in front of me are a huge barrier and one step at a time is what I have to do. If I never try, I’ll never achieve anything. If I fall down, what do I do? I am gonna try again and again because the moment I give up is the moment that I’ll fail. It is so important that we don’t despair with the results that we sometimes don’t anticipate whether it’s in the soccer game or life. So embrace the path your team has taken and believe that they will try again with resilience. Then you will feel the happiness in life again to be able to enjoy the World Cup as a true festival as it is, a celebration. Failure is not important. How you overcome it is。
When it comes to celebrating the 60th birthday of our great motherland,I would contribute my individual and unique colors to creating a more diverse motherland.
