It’s my dream to have the opportunity to challenge all the foreign athletes to the championship at this great occasion: 20xx Olympic Games. Now, the dream came true. As an athlete of China, I’m here to win the gold medal of orienteering for our motherland. I’m so proud of being one of the best players in the world. But could you believe I had been a lazy girl when I was in Junior High. I’m not kidding! At that time, running was my last favorite. I really don’t know how to describe the first time I was on the track. It was horrible. When I started to run, I was simply out of breath. And while I touched the finishing line, I really didn’t know if I was still alive.
It’s so funny, huh? But it’s true, I did. Well, something happened and changed the situation. We won the right of holding the Olympic Games in 20xx. After that, sports became a kind of game in campus. And there are many sports clubs in school. One day someone asked me:“are you gonna try one of those?”First I felt so wired. “Try to get into sports clubs? Are you kidding?” I said. the snow storm, the tibet issue, the obstruction to the olympic torch relay，the earthquaketime dates back to the day the horrible earth quake occurred in sichuan, tens of thousands of people lost life and families. i’ll never forget those days i sat front of the tv, moved by people never gave up under ruins even there’s little hope to survive. i’ll never forget those days most newspapers and websites were all in black and white. i’ll never forget those days i had my black coat on, writing down my best wishes to the suffering people.

throughout my years of being a student, i’ve had many teachers. none of them are the same, but the one that i’ll never forget and will always miss is my chinese bilingual teacher in the middle school i attended in seattle, ms. ho. she was a skinny, but stylish lady in her 50s. she was different from all the other teachers because she gave me something unforgettable.
ms. ho and i became friends right in the first semester i was in that middle school. at the same time, i was having a really hard time with my subjects. since i had just transferred from a bilingual school, where i had stayed for two months after arriving in the us, my english was horrible; my average grade was below c. i almost thought it impossible to learn english. then, one day she told me she strongly believed that i was capable of controlling my life, and i would be just fine. she said that she found we were much alike: both were stubborn, kind-hearted and a little bit simple-minded. she believed that i had the quality of becoming wise. she even said that she didn’t have any worries about me, about my not learning english. with her encouragement, i found the strength within myself and began to desire to work even harder. as a result, i soon proved her right, and at the end of the semester, i got a 3.8 average grade.
today, i still keep in touch with her, and she still tells me how she believes in me. sometimes, i’d think back, and wonder how i could handle all those things if it wasn’t for her encouragement and trust. could i be the person i am today? then, it struck me: what we need has always been trust and love of others; because these things inspire us to do our best, and to live our life to its fullest.
to sum up, i’d like to say to all of you: let us all appreciate trust and love of others and achieve our full potential in our life!

I believe I can fly! Maybe you think that I am a crazy person or something. Well, actually I believe I can fly is the name of a song, which is my favorite English song. I don’t know who wrote these words, but I’ve always liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it to be. We are all in the position of the farmers. can money buy happiness? different people have different opinions. somethink yes, while others hold the opposite.
it is true that with enough money one can buy all the things one wants, andlive a life of comfort and security. however, it is equally true that lack ofmoney causes great distress. it is a common view that "money is the root of allevil." the pursuit of money drives many people to cheat and steal. in someplaces there is nothing that cannot be bought with money, resulting in corruptsocieties where everybody is miserable.
so, money does not necessarily mean happiness. it all depends on how it isused. if we make honest and sensible use of money, it can be a stepping-stone tohappiness l although money cannot buy happiness, it can make happiness possibleif it is employed sensibly.

i have had a lot of teachers in my school who have given me much help in my study. for their help i will never forget them. but today i am going to talk about a special teacher of mine. this teacher is not a human being and its name is“computer”. it has been teaching me a lot of knowledge and i appreciate it very much.
with the development of modern science and technology, computers are widely used in every teritories (1) including education. how can a computer be my teacher? how does a computer teach me? multimedia(多媒体)helps a lot in this aspect in recent years, and computer-based training (cbt) has become a popular educational medium (手段). even before the multimedia come (2) up, many different learning systems appeared, using the components and techniques we now associate with the term “multimedia”. multimedia components, such as graphics (动画) , animations , sound and video, make the learning process easier through visualization. animations can present many complex subjects dynamically, but human teachers can not do this on blackboards. multimedia makes our study more lively and interesting. for example, a cd-rom disk named “encarta encyclopedia” contains 650 mb information including images, graphics, music clips, video clips, animations , texts, hotwords, and database search functions. fields involved includes physical
sciences, performance arts, social sciences, politics, military, education and so on. when pressing a button, i can hear american president clinton's speech clip. i may enjoy playing all kinds of musical instruments in the world. i can also see the animation of many physical phenomena. this makes physical concept to be understood deeply (3). the audio features of multimedia can greatly help me learning (4) foreign languages. with its speech output capabilities, i'm no longer dependent on an instructor for proper pronunciation.
how can i interact with a computer? there are many ways, including keyboard, mouse pointer, and touch screen. i often use a keyboard. when i press right keys, i can see and hear whatever i want. information world is at my fingertip. i wish that true speech input-output system would be invented one day.
as teachers, computers have a lot of virtues： they are positive, they have good memories and never lose any information stored in them. they have much knowledge in every field. they can let out all kinds of sounds, and can also improve the efficiency of our study. for example, if i want to, i can skip some chapters so that i can study at my own pace.
although computers will never take the place of human teachers, they are welcomed by more and more learners. computers will continue to evolve(发展)with the aid of modern technologies. computers are so powerful, helpful and important that everybody needs it, especially in the future! i love my computer teacher!

it is undeniable that the worsening environment has become the biggestconcern of the present-day world. land resources are dwindling because of waterloss and soil erosion. waste gases poison the air we breathe. the rivers andlakes are polluted by waste dumped in them from factories. it is probably noe~aggeration to say that deterioration of the quality of the environmentthreatens the eistence of mankind itself.
some people are of the opinion that the environmental problem is the pricewe have to pay for economic development. but i do not think that this argumentis valid. after all, what is the point of economic growth if people’s lives areadversely alfected by worsening environmental pollution?
there is plenty of evidence to show that sustainable development can beachieved by balancing economic growth with protection of the environment. thekey to achieving this is to make people aware of the seriousness of the governments and ordinary citizens should join hands to make this world abetter place to live in, not only for ourselves, but also for futuregenerations.

When we start to study we meet many new faces which will live with us for four years we must make friends with them .just like the saying says friends play an important role in our life,if you have many fiends you will have less troublts in your life ,if you have no friends you will have troublts everwhere in your life,so do you want to have many friends? of course the answer is ‘yes’.this is the third thing i want to say :the friendship.

On the other hand, my other son, Hunter, who heads the World Food Program USA, graduated from Yale Law School.Now, he thought it’s a great idea. But then again, law graduates always think all of their ideas are great ideas.
By the way, I’ve had a lot of law graduates from Yale work for me. That's not too far from the truth. But anyway, look, the truth of the matter is that I have a lot of staff that are Yale graduates, several are with me today. They thought it was a great idea that I speak here.
As a matter of fact, my former national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, who is teaching here at Yale Law School, trained in international relations at Yale College, edited the Yale Daily News, and graduated from Harvard -- excuse me, Freudian slip -- Yale Law School. You’re lucky to have him. He’s a brilliant and decent and honorable man. And I miss him. And we miss him as my national security advisor.

1、单词、课文是英语最基础的部分，每个同学都需要能够熟练的背诵，背，并不是一个一个字母硬塞入脑袋里，有时一个单词是由几个单词组成的，我比较推荐用音标来记单词，通过每个单词的音标音节就可以理解快速的背单词、课文，并且只要你记得这个单词，即使忘了，再给音标一样能写出单词，所以背单词、课文，只要理解有方法。有时强记也是需要的，那时背单词、课文对你来说再也不是一件头疼的事。
2、每天坚持听磁带是锻炼听力的最有效的方法。一般的英语试卷，听力占20%，是很大的分数，所以想考高分的话，听力必须保证满分。听磁带时要仔细听，一个一个单词的听，能清楚的听到每一个单词组成的句子，如果有含糊不清的，不要只想着跳过，应该重复地听，直到听清为止。我们可以在老师上新课前提前预习，预习新课文并且听课文磁带，这样老师讲新课时，你就可以清楚的知道，每一个单词每个句子在哪里，在讲什么，听课效率肯定会提高很多，尤其对一些在英语方面不是很优秀同学来说，这是很有帮助。
其次就是听课了，上课时，一定要全身心的投入到课堂中， 老师讲的每个语法都要理解并且运用得当，练习是对一天学习的'巩固，必须要认认真真写，不会写的不要抄，实在想不出来，就去问问同学，同学也不会，就去询问老师，千万不要只抄一个答案，这是没有任何意义。下次碰到一样题型的题还是一样不会做，所以一定要认真听讲，理解每一个语法，不仅要知道答案，要“知其然！知其所以然”。
总的来讲英语就靠背、听、练认真听课，理解语法，踏踏实实，一步一个脚印，英语其实并没有那么难。
Hi everyone. My topic today is Maths in my Eyes.
When I mention the word “maths” some adjectives will come to mind, boring, difficult and complicated. But I think maths is very interesting. It is used almost everywhere in our life and also related to art and music.
We all know one geometrical concept, the golden section. It's very important in painting, sculpture and architecture, such as the Parthenon in Athens and the Venus de Milo. In nature a little pentagonal flower has its golden section. It looks beautiful.
What about its connection with music? Lets take a look at a straight and tight string. Pluck it, and then halve its length, then pluck it again. The sound we hear is the same note but a higher frequency. The Greek mathematician Pythagoras discovered this law and it developed into the musical scale we know today.
Another example is from the famous composer, Bach. When we listen to his music in “Well-Tempered Clavier”， we find the notes are always getting higher .But amazingly, in the end, it comes back to the initial height. Why is it? That's why Bach was great! It's a very interesting maths problem. We call it a paradox.
These days we learn maths at school. The only purpose is to get a high mark. But I personally think that those with curious and creative minds will open the door to the world of maths. Just as Galileo said, “Mathematics is the alphabet with which God has written the universe”。 Maths, in my eyes, is a fascinating subject that needs our passion and imagination.
