Ladies and gentlemen,
I am honored to stand here to share with you on such a important subject as climate change.Yes ,it is global warming .
Let me give you two phenomenons.
Here is the first one. More and more people used to be using air condition ,but how many people ever thought whether this new ?hobby? will bring side-effects or not? Maybe just few people. In fact, the side-effect is apparent. The emissions of gases exhausted from air conditioning contain a lot of methane (这里可以停顿一下)which could cause global warming. By the way, air conditioning will waste a lot of electricity .
The second one is about the increasing amount of cars. According to the statistics, in 21st century, there are 7 millions cars in the world, a large amount of exhaust gases has seriously influenced us, such as: cough, throat inflammation.
This two phenomenons are just few part of reason which change our environment badly. There are many other reasons.
In nearly 100 years, the average global temperature experienced twice fluctuations which is “cold-warm-cold-warm”. Generally, it is the trend that global climate is becoming warmer and warmer . In 1980s,global temperature rised apparently. According to Chinese scientists, the average temperature in China has risen by 1.1 degrees
centigrade in the last 5 decades. It is higher than the reported global average. We are seeing more frequent bouts of extreme weather in many parts of the country. For example, last spring, the most severe drought in 50 years hit northern China affecting the livelihood of 4 million people. Environmental damage and climate change is a reality for us. Out of the world?s most polluted 20 cities, half are in China,70% of Chinese rivers are polluted . China has become the largest carbon emitter of the world.
It is really thought-provoking(发人深省). Who pays for it ? First,as the pace of human high-tech development process goes quiker and quiker, the side-effects with the science development reflected, global warming is one example. more and more greenhouse gases with the development of economy are being discharged into the air.About 70% of the greenhouse gases has been composed of carbon dioxide, which is considered as one of the greatest causes of global warming . It has harmful effects, causing the sea level to raise and many natural disasters to strike. On the other hand , scientists in one wave after another try to awaken us to the growing threat of global warming. But many coutries tend to turn a deaf ear(充耳不闻) to the scientists?warnings. In fact, the earth?s atmosphere is definitely being warmed and the problem is largely man-made. A wise way is that we should get moving to protect ourselves. So the public demand that all nations should taket strong measures to prevent the increase of the earth?s temperature.
In my opinion, it is the high time for us to take action. In order to save the earth, we should try to do things below: no air conditioning, use recycled paper, abandon meat food, don?t use plastic bags, take a bus.It is little drops of life.As long as everyone takes action, it will be a powerful strength to rescue our planet. All countries are supposed to take the legislative initiative as soon as possible.Only in this way can the global warming be put under control.
The environmental pollution is worse and worse more and more seriouslytoday. Water is polluted; we have no clean water to drink. Many trees arecutting down, some animals is getting less and less. Some factories are pouringdirty air in the sky, the population is increasing faster and faster, resourcesare getting less and less…etc. Not only does it affect our lives and health, itbut also has a great affection in the future. People's health has been greatlyaffected by air, noise and water pollution. Many people died of diseases. Inorder to live a better life, we need protect our world。
We shouldn't throw away rubbish everywhere. We want to recycle, reduce, reuse things .Don't waste things. This saves money and reduces pollution. Usethings for as long as possible. We don't use plastic bags. We must plant moretrees and stop the people cutting them .We hope our world becomes more and morebeautiful.
As you know , theres no enough clean water for people. So many of them lose their lives because of water. In a lot of countries, people have to cut trees for living. So theres nothing to keep water from running away. Also we have polluted the land, the river and the air. So we have to face more and more floods and droughts . Its time that we must do something useful to protect our environment. We can plant trees and take good care of them. We can save the water and ask our parents to do so. We cant throw any litter onto the ground and we should collect them for recycling. If we take good care of our earth today,it will be more beautiful tomorrow.

Environmental problems are becoming more and more serious all over the world. With the development of industry and agriculture, cars make great noises and give off poisonous gas. Trees on the hills have been cut down, and waste water is being poured continuously into rivers. Furthermore, wherever we go today, we can find rubbish carelessly disposed. The whole ecological balance of the earth is changing. Massive destruction of environment has brought about negative effects and even poses a great threat to mans existence.
We must face the situation that exists and take actions to solve our environmental problems. For instance, new laws must be passed to place strict control over industrial pollution, the pub!ic must receive the education about the hazard of pollution and so on. We hope that all these measures will be effective and bring back a healthful environment.
“low-carbon” is one of the most popular buzz-words in this year. not only china but all countries focus on the topic of “low-carbon”.
here, i’d like to share my own experience abroad with you. several years ago, i was very lucky to have an opportunity to live in the australia about half a month. during that time, not only did i enjoy the beautiful natural scenery there, but also i appreciated the people’s active way of protecting their environment. now, whenever the environment protection is mentioned, the beautiful scenery of australia will arise in my mind, white clouds flying across the blue sky, green grassplot sprinkled with colorful flowers and lovely squirrels playing happily among the trees.
as a citizen of china, if everyone can actively protect the environment in our daily life and if we would like to reduce our carbon footprint, the scenery of blue sky, green grass and lovely animals in australia will appear in china, even in hefei.
but i totally support the view, that is to say, emotion without action is irrelevant! do you unplug electronics after you use them? do you switch off everything before you go to sleep? do you adjust your tv screen a bit dimmer to save energy? do you re-use water for different activities around the house? each of these seemingly insignificant adjustments in your daily life can make a difference in saving the environment of tomorrow.
we all know that nothing is more comfortable than sitting in the warmth of a hearted car while it’s snowing and hailing outside in the freezing cold…but with global warming and even global cooling becoming more pressing by the day, not to mention your own health, take a walk ,ride a bike ,reduce your carbon footprint on the environment .it is said that tiny streams can be combined into a vast ocean, small trees can be an immense forest, and every little makes a mickle.
“low-carbon” is not just a buzz-word but a goal that people from all over the world wanna get. so, reduce carbon footprint! reduce damage! save energy! save the world!
DEMAND for graduates in the UK with skills related to sustainability is booming. Academia is waking up to the need to train specialists in green architecture, chemistry and engineering.
Dean Millar founded the world’s first ever BSc course in Renewable Energy at Exeter University after working as an industry consultant.
He said: “A lot of companies were complaining that there was a lack of bright young people suitably trained to work in the renewables business.”
Now his course has around 90 students learning the ins and outs of biomass, tidal, solar and offshore wind power.
Their career prospects are incredibly bright. Employment opportunities are not just limited to the energy sector, but segue into the regulatory and, increasingly, investment sectors as well.
“The big boys are moving in. The returns to be had are significant, especially in terms of wind development,” said Millar. “Financial firms need expertise across the board so they can make sensible investment decisions.”
Students on York University’s Master’s course in Green Chemistry are ideally placed to take advantage of the growing demand in industry for graduates with waste minimization skills.
Professor James Clark is founder of York’s Green Chemistry Centre for Excellence and the world’s leading green chemistry journal, Green Chemistry. He said: “We are now talking to producers of automobiles, electronics, furniture and pharmaceuticals, people who need to use chemistry but don’t think of themselves as chemists.”
As waste production legislation becomes increasingly strict, the traditional emphasis on making as much of a chemical as possible is shifting towards minimizing the waste that process creates. “A lot of chemicals are made from petroleum, but we are developing sustainable ways to make carbon, typically from biomass such as dead plants and trees,” said professor Clark.
All of last year’s graduates quickly found employment, some receiving multiple job offers in a variety of different fields.
Li Li, a 26-year-old Chinese postgraduate student, graduated from York in 20__. She said:
“I hadn’t heard about green chemistry in China. It was a new area and I was curious. Now the government back home needs people who know about these principles.”
Deep in the heart of Wales, 400 students at the Centre for Alternative Technology’s (CAT) Graduate School of the Environment are busy designing and building everything from high insulation wood housing to wind power turbines. With energy costs rising, building firms are increasingly looking to minimize the energy wasted heating and lighting homes, a service CAT students are well-equipped to provide.
A new institute is being built to meet the burgeoning demand for places and a distance learning facility will be launched next September so foreign students can complete CAT courses from home.
The expertise being taught on these courses is essential to a continually expanding range of companies and government authorities. Yet there is a larger goal at stake; the students are at the forefront of the battle against climate change. In the words of Dean Millar, “If we’re going to save the planet, we need to start turning these people out in big numbers.”
Currently,my school is launching an activity whose theme is that actionschange the world to advocate the low carbon living.
In the activity,we are required to go to school or some other place by bikeor by foot as much as possible instead of by bus.And when the Christmases, sending e-greeting cards instead of tridional cards of which are made of woodas we know.Besides,we should use both sides of every piece of paper and weshould save water as well as electricity.
I believe that only we do thus can we have a better living environment.
There are still many problems of environmental protection in recent years. One of the most serious problems is the serious pollution of air, water andsoil. the polluted air does great harm to people’s health. The polluted watercauses diseases and death. What is more, vegetation had been greatly reducedwith the rapid growth of modern cities.
To protect the environment, governments of many countries have done a lot.Legislative steps have been introduced to control air pollution, to protect theforest and sea resources and to stop any environmental pollution. Therefore, governments are playing the most important role in the environmental protectiontoday. AD:From .
In my opinion, to protect environment, the government must take even moreconcrete measures. First, it should let people fully realize the importance ofenvironmental protection through education. Second, much more efforts should bemade to put the population planning policy into practice, because more peoplemeans more people means more pollution. Finally, those who destroy theenvironment intentionally should be severely punished. We should let them knowthat destroying environment means destroying mankind themselves.
low-carbon economy and life style (经济与生活方式)
author unknown
good morning, ladies and gentleman,
imagine a world when you wake up in a hot and stuffy weather, while the sky is no longer blue, the streets are crowded with annoying cars with the buzzing sound and the exhaust pipes blow out this horrible black smoke. what is your feeling about it?
in our current society, we can’t be more familiar with the phrase ----the low carbon economy. we all take it for granted due to the fact the concept of low carbon economy enjoys a higher and higher popularity in our daily life, especially after today’s speech contestj .but how can we achieve the goal of low carbon economy?
so what’s low carbon life style?
let’s look back on our daily life. every morning as soon as you open your eyes, are you used to turn on the lights immediately when the room is bright enough as long as you draw the window curtains apart? is that your habit that when you are brushing your teeth you leave the water tap running on? are you accustomed to setting the temperature of the air conditioner in your office below 26 degrees celsius? in general, a low-carbon lifestyle covers many aspects of our modern life, such as cooking, transportation, home heating, and holiday travel, which can be conducted in a way that gives the maximum reduction of personal carbon emissions. it is a life with low energy, low consumption, low expenses.
In some places, the air and water pollution is so serious that it causesmany deaths. At the same time, many animals and plants are in danger because ofthe destruction of their habitats. so a low carbon life is becoming more andmore popular among people. A low carbon life can be of great use for us .Therefore, we must take the necessary measures to reduce the environmentalimpact of carbon dioxide. But what should we do for it ?
In my view , First of all, as students, we should go to school on footinstead of driving a car. Cars not only let out carbon dioxide but also wasteenergy. Second ,we had best not use plastic bags which can bring about the whitepollution. We should use the environmentally-friendly bags. Third, it's of greatuse to plant trees. Trees can absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Now wecan from our own, to promote low-carbon living.
From now on we started operations! I believe that only we do thus can wehave a better living environment.
Dear headmasters,teachers,classmates and friends:
I’m very proud that I have chosen to speak to you all today, I’m a bit nervous as I’ve never made a speech before to so many people ,so please forgive me if it shows.
As we all know, the environmemt around us is getting worse and worse .In some places we can’t see fish swimming in the river or trees on the hills. Some people even have no clean water to drink. So I think we must do something to protect the environment. .But what can we do? How to protect our environmemt? For example, we can go to school on foot or by bike . we can use shopping basskets not plastic bags .when we go shopping and we can use both sides of the paper when we write .In a word ,if everyone pays more attention to our environment ,there will be less pollution and our life will be better.
“There is only one earth”,I hope everyone will protect our environment well. Thanks!
Someone said “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of abook, whose pages are infinite”. I don?t know who wrote these words, but I?vealways liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it tobe. We are all in the position of the farmers. If we plant a good seed ,we reapa good harvest. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.
We are young. “How to spend the youth?” It is a meaningful question. Toanswer it, first I have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” Youthis not a time of life, it?s a state of mind. It?s not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. It?s the matter of the will. It?s the freshness of thedeep spring of life.
Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of theappetite , for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60more than a boy of 20 . Nobody grows old merely by a number of years . We growold by deserting our ideals. Years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasmwrinkles the soul . Worry , fear , self –distrust bows the heart and turns thespirit back to dust .
Whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being ?s heart the lure ofwonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what?s next and the joy of the gameof living . In the center of your heart and my heart there?s a wireless station: so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and powerfrom men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .
Apoet said “To see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wildflower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. Severaldays ago, I had a chance to listen to a lecture. I learnt a lot there. I?d liketo share it with all of you. Let?s show our right palms. We can see three linesthat show how our love.career and life is. I have a short line of life. Whatabout yours? I wondered whether we could see our future in this way. Well, let?smake a fist. Where is our future? Where is our love, career, and life? Tellme.Yeah, it is in our hands. It is held in ourselves.
We all want the future to be better than the past. But the future can gobetter itself. Don?t cry because it is over, smile because it happened. From thepast, we?ve learnt that the life is tough, but we are tougher. We?ve learnt thatwe can?t choose how we feel, but we can choose what about it. Failure doesn?tmean you don?t have it, it does mean you should do it in a different way.Failure doesn?t mean you should give up, it does mean you must try harder.
As what I said at the beginning, “we are reading the first verse of thefirst chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. The past has gone. Nothingwe do will change it. But the future is in front of us. Believe that what wegive to the world, the world will give to us. And from today on, let?s be theowners of ourselves, and speak out “We are the world, we are the future.”
As we can see, the world population is growing rapidly day by day. So enough fresh water is needed to feed such a big population. What's more, with the development of industry, factories and vehicles produce poisonous gases or wastes, which consequently results in the pollution of water. Though fresh, a good amount of it can no longer be used. Only quite limited fresh water resource is available to human beings. So it's high time for us human beings to take quick action to protect water resource. Stop pollution and save water, otherwise, we cannot survive on the earth.
With fresh water, the world will be prosperous.
As we all know, the environmemt around us is getting worse andworse .In some places,we can't see fish swimming in the river or trees on thehills. Some people even have no clean water to drink.
So I think we must do something to protect the environment. But what can wedo? How to protect our environmemt ?For example,we can go to school on foot or bybike .
we can use shopping baskets not plastic bags when we go shopping, and we canuse both sides of the paper when we write .In a word,if everyone pays moreattention to our environment ,there will be less pollution and our life will bebetter.
“There is only one earth”,I hope everyone will protect our environmentwell.
My honorable judges:
With the high level of development of technology today, our lives have become more and more comfortable, wearing beautiful clothes, eating delicious food, and playing with modern toys. Most of us think that we human beings are the cleverest of all the animals around the world.Sure there is no doubt that we are wise.We have created a large number of successful things. On the other hand,we are also destroying the environment and bringing death to many kinds of animal.
No man is an island.Entire of itself. Each is a piece of the continent.
There is no hope for human being if we continuous killed animals tomorrow.Yes,It’s time to do something to save dolphins, animals, and human beings.Let’s join our hands together to make the world better!
Thank you very much for your attention.
With the development of science and technology, people are attaching moreand more signifance to low-carbon lifestyle. There is no denying that we shouldlead a low-carbon life. For example ,we should turn off the light when we leavethe classroom, turn off the water tap when we finish washing and so on. What'smoreFurthermore,it's our duty to lead a low-carbon life, which does good to ourenvironmentsustainable development.Let us lead a low- carbon life !
The problem of “white pollution” caused by used plastic is becoming increasingly serious, in which plastic shopping bags play an important role. In China about three billion plastic shopping bags are consumed every day, which results in a great waste of resources and heavy environmental pollution. Luckily, The government has put a nationwide ban on the use of free plastic bags, demanding that all stores and supermarkets not provide customers with free plastic bags after June 1. The rule will undoubtedly reduce the use of plastic bags and enhance the awareness of environmental protection. It is highly advocated that we should turn to cloth bags and shopping baskets from now on.
